Does it work?

There is significant clinical and empirical evidence to show that acupuncture is effective in the treatment of a number of conditions. Some of these conditions are listed below:

Does it hurt?

Most people’s experience of needles is of those used in injections and blood tests. Acupuncture needles by comparison are much thinner and treatment may give rise to a mild sensation which lasts only a few seconds. Typically you will feel relaxed during treatment, in fact, many patients fall asleep!

Acupuncture without Needles

acupuncture points can also be stimulated with  pressure, heat, and lasers. however so far the most effective and popular method has been  the use of very fine sterile disposable needles which can be further stimulated using a battery  (the electroacupuncture)

Needles can be painless!.

Despite being surgical minded it was hard for me  to pierce the skin with multiple needles. It was only when one of my patients told me that the needles do not feel much worst than the  pointed ends of the petal of a lotus flower that I began to think about the benefits of  taking the fear of needles away .

What is acupuncture?

ACUPUNCTURE is a tried and tested system of medicine and has been practised in China and the Far East for over 2,000 years.

According to traditional Chinese philosophy, health and longevity is achieved through balance; specifically through ensuring the balance of Yin and Yang within the organs and a strong smooth flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body.

The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors such as fear, anger, sadness, worry or grief as well as poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections and trauma.

The principal aim of traditional acupuncture is to treat the whole person and recover the equilibrium between the physical, mental and emotional aspects of an individual.

In the West, the benefits of acupuncture are attributed to the stimulation of nerves in the skin and muscle tissue, producing effects such as an increase in the body’s natural painkillers - endorphin and serotonin.

Modern research shows that acupuncture can affect and regulate most of the body's systems including the nervous system, endocrine (hormonal) system and immune system, as well as the respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.

Irrespective of the language you use to describe acupuncture and its benefits, it continues to prove its relevance in Modern Medicine, particularly in the treatment of chronic disease.
